CAMBRAI DAY COMMEMORATION DINNER 2009
CAMBRAI DINNER MAIN PAGE.

Saturday 21 November 2009

The formal highlight of our social calendar – the annual commemoration of the Battle of Cambrai was celebrated at the School of Armour Officers/Sergeants Mess on Saturday 21 November. Keldie Hall was the venue that saw 81 members and guests enjoy an evening of memories rekindled, fellowship and camaraderie.

The 92nd anniversary of the battle was celebrated with a forthright and thought provoking address by Major General Orme on the challenges facing all ex service organisations in maintaining the linkages between associations and the currently serving and future members.

Our treasured World War II comrades from Sydney made the pilgrimage again and honoured the memory of their mates with their traditional Memorial Service in the Tank Museum’s WWII Armoured Memorial. The service was particularly poignant this year with the playing of the Last Post and Rouse by Musn John Mansfield of 4/19 PWLH.

The dinner was a great success and having been to many I can say that this was one of the best.

The meal was terrific, creamy potato soup to start and I had delicious turkey for main.....sweets looked good, unfortunately
Rod & I missed out as we were conducting the raffle.
The raffle is always a great success and this year (as always) the prizes were a ripper thanks to Rod Westgarth's organisational skills.

The guest speaker was Major General Craig Orme, AM, CSC & his speech was terrific.... not only because he joined the army in the same
year as me, his discussion of what the Army is currently doing and the challenges ahead was very very interesting.

Members of the corp (present at the dinner) who served valiantly in world war two were mentioned several times by speakers who
reminded us that of these gents are treasures of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps, here here! Dave White (committee member)

Our head table, Committee members: Godfrey Camenzuli, Daryl Pinner (OAM), Guest Speaker Maj Gen Craig Orme (AM, CSC), Peter Still & Peter Branagan (OAM).
